about me
Dr. Casey Schine
Postdoctoral Research Associate at Middlebury College
I am a biological oceanographer with a particular interest in the impact of ocean circulation and nutrient distributions on patterns of primary production in the ocean. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Middlebury College, where I am working with Dr. Kirsten Coe to parameterize a bryophyte plant functional type to add to earth system models. Prior to coming to Middlebury I was a Postdoctoral Oceanographer at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
I received my PhD in Environmental Earth System Science from Stanford University, where I conducted field- and satellite-based research in the Southern Ocean that demonstrated the importance of hydrothermal vents as a source of iron for a recurring phytoplankton bloom in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. I received my M.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Alabama where I studied the impacts of climate change on sulfur biogeochemistry in the Southern Ocean. I received a B.A. in Biology from Kenyon College, where I did an honors thesis looking at the functional response of wetlands to surrounding land use.
